Our Mission
Our mission is to provide students exceptional flight training while focusing on safety, quality and customer service through the use of technically advanced aircraft. Our goal is to continue to offer the caliber of programs, aircraft, facilities and faculty that make Air Safety a world leader in professional pilot training. Behind the program descriptions and curricula information, our faculty and staff are the individual faces that directly contribute to the caliber of our training programs. We strive to create an academic environment in which outstanding students and instructors from around the world are continually challenged and inspired to do their best possible work.
The academy is home to the most technically advanced training aircraft in the world - the Cirrus SR20. Through superior advancement in both safety and technology, the Cirrus has proven to be the central focus and single most important element in our flight training programs. From the glass cockpit to the ballistic airframe parachute system, the Cirrus is revolutionizing professional pilot training as we know it today. We invite you to visit the academy at any time and explore first-hand what has earned Air Safety world-class status within the flight training industry.
Our Location Air Safety Flight Academy is located in beautiful Glendale, Arizona. As one of the fastest-growing cities in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, Glendale is defined by stunning mountains, sparkling lakes and bustling development. Supported by more than $1 billion in recent capital investments, Glendale has become the preferred hotspot in Phoenix for both sports and aviation. With over 325 days a year of sunshine and an average annual daytime temperature of 82 degrees, Phoenix has the long standing reputation as being the "best-of-the-best" when it comes to flight training locations. As such, it is not surprising that Phoenix is home to some of the most popular airline pilot training programs and flight training academies in the world. No other metropolitan area offers the aviation infrastructure as does Phoenix. With hundreds of instrument approaches, every classification of airspace and ideal weather, Phoenix leads the nation as the preferred locale for professional pilot training.
Our Fleet
As an authorized Cirrus Flight Training Center, Air Safety Flight Academy proudly trains in the new Cirrus SR20-G2 - a 200-horsepower, state-of-the-art, technically advanced single-engine aircraft. For multi-engine, training is conducted in the Beechcraft Duchess - a 360-horsepower, complex, twin.
Our History Owned and operated exclusively by airline pilots, Air Safety Flight Academy's roots date back to the early 1990s. Having successfully co-founded three top-10 flight academies over the past decade, Air Safety Flight Academy President and co-founder Dee Pinkston has well established himself as a leader in the professional pilot training industry.
When asked about the success of Air Safety Flight Academy, Pinkston explains that, "One of the contributing factors to the success of Air Safety has been our experience. Experience is usually paramount to success in most industries, and aviation is no exception. I have found it interesting over the years that most flight academies that train airline pilots are actually managed by people who have never flown for an airline or as a professional pilot. Not that airline experience is everything, but it does give you the needed experiential base to train professional pilots to industry standards. When I first entered the airlines, I was pleased to find most of the procedures being taught by many of the flight schools to be right on the money. However, I also found other procedures to be somewhat inadequate or incomplete. It goes without saying that, as an educator, you must have first-hand industry experience in order to be able to effectively train students to industry standards."
Equally important as experience is technology. That's exactly what Air Safety co-founder Dan Klobe brings to Air Safety Flight Academy - real world experience. As a current pilot for a major airline, a former corporate pilot and a flight instructor, Dan Klobe interlaces 20 years of aviation experience into every facet of Air Safety. "A great example of how we've embraced technology is to look at the aircraft we fly and to look at our Crew Resource Management [CRM] program. We are not only the first flight academy in the country to fly aircraft equipped with state-of-the-art glass cockpits, but we are also one of the first to use a full-motion simulator for CRM training. It's great to see that some of the flight academies now recognize the importance of CRM programs. . .but most have yet to figure out that CRM programs really need to be conducted in a full-motion rather than a non-motion simulator. Full-motion simulators are the standard in the industry. That's how it's done in the airlines...how it's done in the corporate world...and how it's done at Air Safety," explains Dan Klobe. Technology. Experience. Real-World Application. The history of Air Safety Flight Academy.
Our Standards Air Safety Flight Academy is accredited by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Part 141 Flight Training Institution (Air Agency Certificate Number 107S806K). As an FAA Part 141 Approved School, training standards are meticulously maintained for all flight and ground training activities. Often referred to as the heart and sole of the academy, our Flight Standards Department is the foundation by which all training activity is supported. The Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Program, Flight Instructor Standardization Program, Flight Syllabus and Stage Check Program all work cohesively to maintain the highest of standards.
