HeliTahoe: The Harvard of Flight Training. Superior Instruction, Unforgettable Experiences, Unsurpassed Safety.

Helicopter training is available in California and Nevada. If you are serious about flying helicopters, join us here at HeliTahoe in South Lake Tahoe and our newest training location in Minden, Nevada. Rotorcraft Private, Commercial, and CFI and CFII courses are available, along with Add-ons and Mountain Flight Training. Founded in December 2005, HeliTahoe is committed to providing superior training. Whether you want to fly for a profession or recreationally, to be a private pilot, instructor or commercial pilot, or just want to add some Mountain Flight training, join us here at HeliTahoe.

About HeliTahoe and our Instructors

HeliTahoe is the only school in US and Canada that operates above 6,000 feet. Owner and Chief Flight Instructor, Claudio, has more than 4,000 hours under his belt, most of which he obtained at or above 6,300 feet. Claudio’s real passion is helicopter flight instruction and seeing the students of HeliTahoe achieve success. Christian, our instructor who oversees the operations at the Minden location, has a vast and enviable aeronautical experience from the German Air Force, great attitude and is known for his professionalism and rock solid work ethic.

You have undoubtedly heard stories about flight schools that are staffed by inexperienced instructors, just logging the necessary pilot in command hours to land a better job, only to leave the minute they reach 1000 hours. At schools with high instructor turnover, the students suffer. At HeliTahoe, we already have stacks of logbooks and are instructors by choice. We are committed to the students, with one-on-one training only. In a world where the competition is highly aggressive, we provide the candidates with a level of skills and knowledge far beyond the average, a unique and irreplaceable tool for success.

Flight Training at HeliTahoe

HeliTahoe is proud to average 45 hours of flight instruction for obtaining the Private Pilot license, compared to the US average of 65 to 75 hours.

Our objective is to have you flying competently and safely with efficient use of training time. HeliTahoe operates out of the South Lake Tahoe Airport, one of the most popular destinations in North America, and every flight is logged as Mountain Training. Mountain flight experience is critical when applying for commercial job opportunities, but more generally valuable for developing a complete set of safe flying skills. In addition, HeliTahoe is proud to announce the opening of a second facility at the Minden-Tahoe Airport in Minden NV.

We operate a R 22 Beta II for VFR training and a R44 Raven I for instrument rating. The combination of these aircraft dramatically reduces the cost of instruction, without compromising the already top notch quality that makes HeliTahoe "The Harvard of Flight Training".

In the very near future, HeliTahoe will offer Turbine Transition combined with Mountain flight training, an explosive cocktail of skills and knowledge, and at a very attractive price. Many would say this is an opportunity that you cannot let pass, and a recipe for a great and safe career. In addition, we will be offering Long Line Training to meet the requirements of FAR part 133 and the USFS carding process.

Our pricing structure is kept very simple:

Testimonials

Over the course of several years I have been lucky to meet Claudio and work with him in this industry. He is a great pilot and instructor but the thing that sets him apart to me is his passion and skill for training others- "I can hear it in his voice". I actually use this to help train my instructors to be the best CFI's they can be. Most flight schools spend a lot of time worrying about this or that and not taking the time to teach instructors how to actually "teach" in the cockpit and on the ground. It is a special skill and one that Claudio has mastered. Take the time to see for yourself what it is to be good as an instructor and visit Claudio and his operation. We feel so good about him that we actually send our students to learn Mountain flying from him when we are only an 1.5 hours away-
Chris-

I knew that Helitahoe was the place where I wanted to learn to fly half way through my first meeting with Claudio. I am sure I made the right decision because I have had nothing but positive experiences here. From that first meeting on, Claudio has been very generous with his time and resources, including letting me hang around the office two days a week for about three months while I got all of my finances together. For not a lot of work, Claudio let me sit in on a good amount of ground instruction, which I believe gave me a huge head start on my training and really gave me a healthy respect, bordering on awe, of Claudio’s deep understanding and skill as a pilot and teacher. Watching him at the white board or in the cockpit can be equally impressive.

I have now begun my training at the Minden, NV branch in the Robinson R22 and it has so far been the most challenging and rewarding investment of my time and money that I have ever undertaken. Christian, Claudio’s right hand man, has been all I could ask for in an instructor; he is highly experienced and skilled, and very methodical in the way he approaches teaching. He is willing to match your effort step for step and his flexible work schedule has allowed me to fly three times a week while still working more than full time.

I could probably go on for a long while but I will end with this: if you are serious about flying and want to go to a school where you will be embraced as a friend, student and, most importantly, pilot, you need to come to Helitahoe and check out the best kept secret in the helicopter training industry.
