FUNCTION: The Long Range Planner, Crewing, reports to the Manager, Crew Planning and Scheduling. This position is responsible for all crew planning aspects which reach beyond a monthly time range and will be accountable for establishing and maintaining long term strategies and plans in support of continuous improvement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drives constant advancements in the crewing department with intent to increase crew utilization in a manner which is timely and cost effective
- Develops and maintains a running one-year crew training plan taking vacation and other planned absences into account
- Responsible for conducting and awarding the annual vacation bids along with authorizing any switches and changes to vacation
- Works in connection with Commercial Planning to find efficiencies within the flight schedule to see if further optimization of the crew pairings are possible
- Continuous running of pairing solutions to find optimal efficiencies for future months
- Consults with Pilots and Cabin Crew to determine key pairing construction issues and then build pairings with the aim to mitigate these issue while still aiming for optimal efficiencies
- Communicates daily with Crew Planners, Flight Operations Administration Staff, Commercial Planning, other shift supervisors and department managers as needed
- Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures (FOAG) and government regulations (CARs) with all respects to forward planning
- Forwards planning for budgeting purposes
- Creates and requests advanced annual hotel and ground transportation requirements
- Input New Hire Information (CrewTrac forms) into system and create CrewWeb accounts
- Actively participate in Porterīs Safety Management System (SMS) including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operation; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy
- Other Duties as assigned by the Manager, Crew Planning and Scheduling
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Crew Scheduler or Planner
- Project management experience
- Knowledge of CrewTrac, FliteTrac and Navitaire Pairing Optimizer
- Knowledge of CARīs crewing regulations and the Porter FOAG
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel
- Strong understanding of systems thinking (i.e. both realizing that one piece of an organization has an impact on other components of the organization and navigating that impact successfully)
- Dependable, self-starter
- High level of organizational, decision making and presentation skills
- Superior communication skills, both oral and written
